Bringing Power to the Consumer Through Blogging

6 August, 2008 - Blogging - 7 Comments

It goes without saying that blogging is increasing in power. Media are starting to recognise blogs in an official way. The public are beginning to understand what a blog is and what power they can contain. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that bloggers are now finding it easier to bring back power to those who need it.

Power to the Consumer

Consumers are scammed constantly. Often, scams go undetected with the big companies and corporations getting away with it. But not anymore! Blogging is allowing consumers to fight back.

Funtastic Holidays Scam

30 minutes ago, my good friend Brendon Sinclair wrote about his Mum being scammed by Funtastic Holidays.

Northern UK Blogger Events

25 July, 2008 - Events, Misc - 8 Comments

As you read this, I will be chatting, face to face, with co-author of the ProBlogger book, Chris Garrett. I’m meeting with Chris to view a potential venue for future blogging events for bloggers in North of the UK.

After Chris came back from WordCamp UK last week, he wrote a single 138 character Tweet asking if anybody would be interested in a regular (monthly) gathering of Northern UK bloggers. Since then, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I’ve been stunned by the amount of northern UK bloggers who have come out of the wood work and made their voice heard. Personally, I thought us Northerners were just getting to grips with electricity, let alone figuring out this whole blogging ‘thing’. :)

Creatures of Habit - Like Humans Like Animals

24 July, 2008 - Motivation - 10 Comments

We wake up at 7am. Each day.
We go to bed at 11pm. Each day.
We commute the same route to work. Each day.
We light up a cigarette. Each time we start our car.
We do the same workout at the gym. Each day (and regardless of whether it is working for us).

As humans, we like to believe we’re the far most superior race on Earth and we’re nothing like the bird that migrates year after year… to the day. But when push comes to shove, we inferior, empowered, Earth busting humans are creatures of habit just like any animal.

Girl Geek Dinner - Leeds - 13th August 2008

24 July, 2008 - Events, Misc - No Comments

Girl? Geek? In the North of England? Then Leeds’ first ever Girl Geek Dinner may be of interest to you.

Organised by my co-working friend and head of NTI Leeds, Linda Broughton, and Girly Geekdom’s Maz Hardey, Girl Geek Dinner is for the girls, by the girls, all talking girly geek stuff. (Usually the same stuff us male geeks talk about…).

The event is being hosted at ‘the study’ at The Living Room, (7 Greek Street, Leeds, LS1 5RW), approximately five minutes walk from Leeds City Station, from 6-9pm on 13th August 2008.
