Perth to Paradise - Support Young Jack!

8 October, 2008 - Misc - 4 Comments

Perth to Paradise Charity Bike RideI’ve been meaning to write about this for so long that it’s just not funny anymore. So, here we are. Finally. :) Jack Sinclair is the son of a good friend of mine, Brendon Sinclair of Tailored Consulting. Not too long ago, Jack was watching the now very famous TV series, “Long Way Round“, the documentary of the motorcycle trip across the world from London to New York by actor Ewan MacGregor and his mate Charley Boorman.

Jack loved the show, and as kids do, said… “We should do that across Australia, Dad.”

Brendon thought he meant ride across Australia on motorbikes and that he had a couple of years before he could get his license.

“Sure, let’s do it.” said Brendon.

It wasn’t until a couple of days later that Brendon realised Jack meant riding across Australia on push bikes! And so, the Perth to Paradise ride was born.

Jack SinclairSo, at 15 years old, Jack (That’s him on the left with ride ambassador and cycling legend Robbie McEwen) and his Dad set out from Perth in Western Australia on 11th September to cycle 3,500km in 30 days to Surfers Paradise. Their goal? To raise as much money as possible for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Australia, who provide vulnerable young people, in need of additional support and friendship, with a caring mentor and positive role model.

How They Doing?

We’re now in to October and the guys are going really well. In fact, they aim to arrive in Surfers Paradise this Friday (10th October).

How Much Have They Raised?

So far, Jack and Brendon have raised an astonishing $13,008.20 AUD. They raised $2,000 on the day they announced their trip!

I just want to give a big shout out to Jack and Brendon, and all the people who have supported and rode alongside them. You guys, all of you, are an inspiration to us all. I was hoping to be at Surfers to see you arrive, but unfortunately I’m no longer in Australia so it wasn’t to be. However, my donation will be with you shortly.

If you would like to follow Jack and Brendon’s progress over the final couple of days, head over to the Perth to Paradise Web site. I’m sure they and the people at Big Brothers Big Sisters would be very grateful if you would consider donating an amount, big or small, to help all the young people the charity interacts with on a daily basis.

Go get ‘em guys! Your motivation and strength never ceases to amaze me!

You’re friends with Brenden Sinclair? No way! I bought his website design business kit some years ago. He’s the reason I first started looking into website design for money.

My web design business is going great now, thanks to all his help. I really love being able to have documents to model my paperwork after.

Yep, Brendon and I have become good friends after I started reading his blog after buying his business kit. :)

I’ll be honest and say I haven’t used the ready to go documents all that much. But they’re still sat in the folder waiting. Maybe I’ll use them more in the future. :)

I’m sure Brendon will be pleased to hear that, Steven. :)

Hi Jamie - that is amazing. I’ve known folk do long cycle rides for charity before - but nowhere near that long.

Hey Cath,

It certainly is amazing. Jack and Brendon finished the ride and the amount raised is now over $19,000 :)
