Northern UK Blogger Events

25 July, 2008 - Events, Misc - 9 Comments

As you read this, I will be chatting, face to face, with co-author of the ProBlogger book, Chris Garrett. I’m meeting with Chris to view a potential venue for future blogging events for bloggers in North of the UK.

After Chris came back from WordCamp UK last week, he wrote a single 138 character Tweet asking if anybody would be interested in a regular (monthly) gathering of Northern UK bloggers. Since then, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I’ve been stunned by the amount of northern UK bloggers who have come out of the wood work and made their voice heard. Personally, I thought us Northerners were just getting to grips with electricity, let alone figuring out this whole blogging ‘thing’. :)

So Chris and I are currently viewing Old Broadcasting House in Leeds. I know all about this place, having co-worked here earlier this year, but there are still parts I’d like to see from an event organiser stand-point, rather than a co-worker stand-point. And besides, who wouldn’t take up the opportunity to meet a published author with a blog of over 8,000 readers? Right? Right? Or am I just a sucker for meeting a semi-famous face? :D (Chris, his humble self, will no doubt dive for cover with that “semi-famous” remark).

If you’re in the UK and would be interested in attending a blogger get together in the North (Yorkshire seems to be about as south as it would go), whether it is just an evening, a day, or a weekend, please register on the mailing list. There’s been quite a bit of discussion on there already and I’m sure there will be plenty more when Chris and I get back to our offices from our afternoon out in Leeds.

There really isn’t anything set in stone yet. We’re trying to get the first meetup to happen soon (I head to Australia in little over a month, so I want it to be before then), but right now we’re just in the first few days of organisation and everybody is having their say. :)

I’m seriously considering coming - so you might even get to meet someone with a blog with over 16,000 subscribers ;-) Haha, I seriously doubt that’s a record for a northern blogger though. In any case, it sounds like it could be awesome - it’d be great to have an event that focuses more on blogging than just raw tech.

Hey Peter,

We’d love to have you there. I think of those confirmed, Chris currently has the most subscribers with 8,000.

We have our first confirmed event details. 6:30pm at Old Broadcasting House, Leeds.

My home country (Indonesia) will have the biggest blogger gathering in October, done in 3-4 cities, backed by the government and will be attended my hundreds of bloggers (last year was the first and quite successful). But since now I live in Scotland I’ve been searching for a similar event and couldn’t find one :(.

I wonder if you would expand this event to Scotland?
