2008 - The Best Year Of My Life!

1 January, 2008 - Misc - 20 Comments

An hour ago the bells of Big Ben rang out to signal the New Year and as I laid in bed, looking at the 20 mile view from my window, I watched the thousands of fireworks shoot up across West Yorkshire. If I ever got close to the sound of World War 3, I think it was then. Half the county exploded!

Today, bloggers everywhere have been asking what our New Years resolutions and goals are. Each time, I’ve given the same answer.

My Ultimate New Year Goal

Quite simple. In 365 days time, as I write my final blog post of 2008, I want to be able to say that the past year was the best year of my life.

Sure, I’ll break that down in to measurable goals, and I’ll eventually break those measurable goals down in to month specific goals, and then week specific goals, and then day specific goals, but ultimately, everything I do this year will be working towards creating the best year of my life.

If, in 365 days time, I can hand on heart say that 2008 was the best year of my life, I couldn’t ask for much more. So that’s what I’m aiming for.

And as I scuttle off to work on my first business venture of 2008 (keyword sniping, courtesy of Court’s Internet Marketing school), I put the question to you. What is your ultimate goal for 2008? Not your small, specific goals, but your ultimate goal?

Happy New Year everyone. I’m full of emotion and excitement to see what the next year brings for us all.

Ah, since I designed your site, you got me reading, and now posting comments! I have to admit Jamie, even when I’m not interested in some posts’ subjects, I still read them. You deserve more credit than you’ve received(And I’m not being nice because you love sheep either).

Anyhow, this year, I want to break the mold. I want to do everything possible different to what I’ve done previously. I constantly revise my design processes, as you know, but now I’m revising my life - Figuratively speaking.

I don’t really believe in new years resolutions anymore, so I’m not making one. If I’m going to do something, I don’t need a new year to do it!

So what does 2008 hold for me? I’ve already started learning Russian, so I plan to continue that. There’s also a whole host of exciting projects Equentity’s working on - You know design is my life! I can’t wait for those to launch. Also, I’m saving up to emigrate to the US, whether that will come in 2008 or 2009, who knows, but it’s a goal nonetheless.

I also plan to start travelling if I can, starting here in the UK. Liverpool has been named the capital of culture, so I’ll be going there! I also want to spend time in Edinburgh and Cornwall. I’ve been to Cornwall before, it’s a beautiful place. As a Northerner, it’s hard for me to say, but it’s nicer than York.

Anyway, Happy new years Jamie! You have to let me buy you a pint this year too!

Thanks for the comment, Pauly.

I didn’t realise you were learning Russian. I never did like learning languages at school, but it was certainly a fantastic and refreshing feeling when I was able to use the things I had learnt when I went to Switzerland (they speak German). I guess it made all those years of boring German lessons actually worth something. Good luck with the Russian! I’m sure you’ll love the feeling once you get to use it in a natural environment. :)

Travel shouldn’t be underestimated either. Cornwall is indeed a lovely county. My favourite county in the UK, actually. It pretty much signifies everything I desire to be (Sun, sea, sand, surf and that free spirit, Aussie kind of attitude).

I really hope you make a point of travelling this year. Each year I say I’m going to do more of it, but I never do as much as I want to.

Happy New Year, Pauly! Now go recover from your hangover!

No hangover here ;) But I did enjoy my new years dinner.

I only started learning Russian last week, but it’s been fun so far. I’m enjoying it. I learnt a little French in school, but nothing that I can really remember - I just wasn’t interested.

I haven’t travelled much in the past, France, Isle of Man, and of course Scotland & other parts of the UK. I know your feelings on Cornwall, do you still plan to move there?

What process are you going through to learn Russian? Are you using tapes, or some other method?

Travelling really is the best learning experience in the world, Pauly. You’ll love doing more of it, I’m sure. :)

Moving to Cornwall, or at least living there for a year or two is certainly on the cards, but I have other plans before that. (I’ll be chatting with you and Paul soon).

Yep, I made a trip to Linguaphone for my learning materials. Books/Audio CD’s etc. I find the whole tape & books way of learning very easy. I can’t write the words yet, but I can recognise them on the page, and speak the words(The few I’ve learnt anyway).

I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy travelling too, the odd few days here and there should be fun - Not to interfere with business.

Other plans eh? I look forward to hearing it!

Happy New Year to Jamie.

Like you I was also able to watch the night sky light up with all of last nights celebration fireworks seeing the new year in - I am not making any resolutions this year as most of them usually fail within the first month if not all of them.

It also leads me to think why do we need the start of a new year to improve ourselves, and shouldn’t we by now be happy and content with what we are? it seems to me including myself we are always striving to improve and forget to enjoy what we have all got so freely given on our very doorsteps etc etc lecture over sorry -

Anyway just wanted to say enjoy what we have been given, enjoy others around us and love life and perhaps the world will become a nicer place? what do you reckon you can reply on my site http://www.aboutmyarea.co.uk/LS29 - it is a community website new to 2007 - so my hopes for 2008 is that it will continue to gain life and be a great help and amusement to all around from far and wide

Would love to hear from you 017958 711705 text me or contact me via the website or email me

Hi Heather,

Happy New Year. It’s nice to see a local commenting on my blog. :)

Here’s my view on New Years Resolutions, and goals in general. If we set them, they are at least there for the taking and it’s possible to achieve them. If we don’t set them, then we don’t even give ourselves a chance to achieve them. I prefer to at least give myself a chance. :)

I entirely agree though that there’s no need to set resolutions and goals just for New Year. It’s no different from any other day, yet people often think this is the only day they can set targets. I’ve been contemplating writing a post about this for the past few days, but I’ve held off doing so. Just why do we use this day to set goals, when we can do it on any other day of the year? I’m sure a psychologist would have an interesting answer to that question. :)

I’ve just been surfing around your Web site. You have a heck of a lot of useful content on there. Good job! :) I’m sure the Web site will see a lot of success this year. Good luck!

Thanks for stopping by, Heather. I hope you subscribe and enjoy my future posts. :)

Happy New Year Jamie

We were surprised to see more fire-works last evening then we ever saw in our little village in Kent (at least 20! - well, where we originate from 20.000 in two hours time was normal ;-) - but there seems to be an increasing trend in the UK to lit up fireworks at New Year, great!)

As for 2008 being my best year ever, I like to think 2007 was already tremendous! But always aiming higher, as my good friend and mentor encourages me time after time.

Goals: continuing to grow our business (5th Anniversary this year!) in a sustainable profitable way; writing my second book - pure business this time, not a business novel; and helping other establishing their business blogs further.

Yeah, there certainly seems to be more fireworks each year. People tend to be divided as to whether that’s is a good thing or not. Personally, I don’t mind them. :)

Is your book available for purchase online, Karin? Please share a link if it is. I’m working on a new area of this site which is going to include book reviews. I’d like to give your book a read. :)

Well, I would have to say my ultimate goal would to be FREE to do what I want when want! Of course that is made up up of smaller goals…

I made a list of my resolutions and turned it into a sale at resolutionsale.com, my first sale ever! So far the sale is going somewhat slow, probably due to the holidays, but the sale is converting at 3% and the OTO is converting at 85% so I can only hope that will keep up!

Happy New Year, blessings to all!

Hi Nelson,

Thanks for stopping by. I noticed you came by from a Google Blog search. Cool. :)

Your goal of being free is certainly the ultimate of the ultimate goals. But aiming high is a very good thing, in my opinion. :)

I hope the sale goes well for you. Everybody should be getting back in to the swing of life and work later this week, so maybe things will start to improve then.

Again, thanks for writing. I hope you subscribe and we see comments from you in the future. :)

Hi Jamie

My debut business novel is for sale online (both at my own website as on Amazon.co.uk - but they will have to buy it from me and that adds extra costs to it ;-))
Available as paperback as well as E-book. With the honest promised to donate £ 1.50 per copy to RoomtoRead.

Small warning: debut novel is partly written in ‘double Dutch English’ ;-)

Thanks Karin. Once I’ve read the books I currently have on my list, I’ll purchase yours.

Double Dutch English. Cool. It should make for an interesting read.

Happy New Year to you as well Jamie.

My big goal for the year, (well it started in Decemeber 07) is to generate $x,xxx/month revenue from my websites and to travel some more this year. Of course we have the honeymoon this year and I would like to make it down to Florida next winter. Hopefully my sites can pay for the trips. :)

They are not huge goals but I think they are attainable.

Hey Nick,

That certainly sounds like an exciting goal. I wish you the best of luck. If you achieve it (and I’m sure you will!), remember me and send me half it.

How are the wedding plans coming along?

LOL you have to fight Denise for your half. Watch out for the pointy shoes she’s a dirty fighter.

The honeymoon plans are moving along, the wedding was last August so those plans have long since been done.

Heh. I think I’ll give up right now. I’d rather not have to fight a pointy shoe.

Oh, that’s right. I got confused because you haven’t had the honeymoon yet. I’m used to people getting married and going straight on their honeymoon. :)

I have also big plans for this year, and I want to write them down, so that in the end of the year I’ll see how well I succeeded. I’m gonna make my blogs to known to big audience.
All the best for 2008!
