Blogger Interview Series - Guy Kawasaki

I said the interview series was over. And it was. Until this interview came in from the one and only, Guy Kawasaki. :)

This is the eleventh interview in my Blogger Interview Series. It comes from Guy Kawasaki of How to Change the World. Guy is a world renowned blogger, managing director of Garage Technology Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, a columnist for Entrepreneur Magazine and author of eight books including The Art of the Start, Rules for Revolutionaries, How to Drive Your Competition Crazy, Selling the Dream, and The Macintosh Way.

Interview With Guy Kawasaki.

Q. If, while running a new blog, you were allowed to promote your blog using just two methods, what would those two methods be and why?
“First, Twitter. Of course, if I were new to blogging, I wouldn’t have a Twitter following so I’d convince Guy Kawasaki to tweet about my blog. Second, email. I would send an email to everyone in my address book.”

Q. If you could write a guest post for any blog but were only allowed to write one guest post in your entire life, which blog would you write for and why?
“I would pick one of the NY Times blogs and forever after link to it and mention it as a way to prove my credibility.”

Q. At the end of every talk I do, I include a “Random Trick to Tip” slide. This is one sentence of advice, usually entirely unrelated to the rest of the presentation. If you could give one sentence of advice to bloggers, what would that be?
“Google is trying to find good shit, so write good shit and don’t worry about SEO.”

Q. Please give us a link to your favourite post on your blog. This doesn’t have to be your most popular post. Just the post which is your own favourite.
“The 10/20/30 Rule of PowerPoint“

- They can also use it to find interesting stories to link to.
- They can visit a bunch of blogs in their field to see the designs that work well.
- They can install an Alltop widget as an easy way to provide more content.
- They can get listed in Alltop to drive more traffic.

Guy is one of my favorites. I’ve read his books and they are very inspiring so it’s great to see an interview here and some more advice to use twitter!

Awesome! I have seen Guy speak a few times, he’s terrific. Nice work scoring another high profile interview!

I had the pleasure of reading Art of the Start not too long ago. It’s a great read, especially when Guy covers bootstrapping and puts the whole notion of business plans into their proper perspective. The latter part was especially intersting, because the book came bundled with Business Plan Pro software :)

Hi Jamie - Awesome - I don’t know how I missed this. Good for you getting an interview with Guy. And good for me being in the same interview series.

I have one question - Guy is saying get listed in Alltop. But how do I get listed in Alltop - I thought they had to choose you. Does he take bribes? Please tell him I have an awesome blog. Buy you a pint.
