Most people who speak with me on a regular basis know about my “Work hard. Play hard” ethics. It’s how I’ve always been. With my Scouting background, I spend a lot of weekends out in the country and it is always so refreshing to get away from work for a couple of days.
Most important of all, taking time away from work allows me to improve my productivity in the days after I arrive back home. I always get more work done in the week after the “down time”.
Now, I absolutely love my work. I often get shouted at by friends when I have to turn down a night on the town because I’m working. They often ask “Don’t you get bored when you work all the time?”. My response to that is always “No. Work is play. Play is work”. Any entrepreneur who is passionate about their business knows what I mean by that (if you’re an entrepreneur and you’re not passionate about your business, you need to change the area in which you do business!).
With all that said, I can guarantee work wouldn’t be as fun as it is if I didn’t take those short (and long) breaks.
“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”
Do you set aside time to relax and forget about your work? How often do you take short breaks?

Get married/life-partner. That’ll take care of ensuring you spend substantial amounts of time away from your entreprenuerial exploits!
Although, I wouldn’t count that among the ‘top’ benefits!
I have to admit now, that after a short camp with the cubs or something, yes I get home tired but the few days afterwards I always end up getting things i’ve been trying to do for ages done.

I don’t generally plan ahead for time off. If I have someone call up and ask if I want to do something, I think about what I have to do. Usually I decline, but occasionally I’ll go out. My personality is more of a loner than being social. It’s the way I have been for a few years.
Short breaks. Don’t get me started! I visit way too many forums. Not counting email, IRC, IM, the list goes on. I take way too many breaks. My goal is about a 15 minute break every time my hands begin to hurt or I get bored (coding can be very repetitive).
Oh, and did I mention I’m on a short break from finishing up my install? Short breaks sure do sometime hit the spot!

Breaks are very healthy! Yet when you can count your breaks in minutes, I think you’re due for a nice vacation! Loner or not! (Yeah Tyler, I’m talkin’ about you buddy!)
