When I redesigned this blog earlier this year, I setup Google Analytics link tracking on many of my outbound links. Link tracking with Analytics has many uses, with the main one allowing you to see how many times a link to an outbound site, such as your RSS subscription link, has been clicked.
Unfortunately, the tracking didn’t work.
I never really took the time to figure out what the problem was. I assumed it was a WordPress plugin conflicting with the Google Analytics code. I left it at that, until this week when I redesigned my blog again.

I’ve been diligently working on my new blog theme today to a point where it is now 10:15pm and I have the shakes. I’ve spent far too long looking at this laptop today, but it has had one benefit.
The Small Things
I’ve been hopping from blog to blog all day looking at what other bloggers use in their designs. Where their ad placements are, where their content is and what content they have just to name a few. And then I got to my Web site footer. What do other bloggers have in their footer, I thought to myself. So off I went to check. I looked at John Chow’s site. ProBlogger. Skellie. Shoemoney. Caroline. Liz. The list goes on.

Over the last week, Paul has progressed really well with my new blog design. I want to share with you a review of what has happened so far.
The very first step in the process of creating the new design was to send Paul a spec. There doesn’t appear to be a clear idea of what a design spec should include, but mine described to Paul what my design should ultimately achieve. It did this in three parts:
Historic and Recent Background

I often come across small things that need noting but are not worthy of a detailed blog post. As a result, I introduce my Quick Tip series.
Quick tips will be short posts noting things that can potentially make a big difference to your online marketing and blogging efforts, but are not so significant that a detailed blog post can or should be written.
Don’t worry, you’re not going to be ducking for cover past piles of quick tips. I imagine I’ll post just one a week at the most.

Earlier today, a friend referred me to Site Verdict. This new Web site allows you to submit your site for a free rating and review from other members. In order to post your site for review you must complete at least five reviews of other sites.
This certainly isn’t anything new. In fact, Web design forums have had ‘Site Review’ sections for many years. The only way this is different is the site is specifically for reviews. I actually had this very same idea many years ago and I started designing the Web site. Unfortunately, as is the case with so many ideas I have, I never followed through to the end.
