July 2007. Sat in the passenger seat on the freeway heading out of Ohio. As I sat there blogging and arranging our schedule for our days at a conference in Chicago, we passed through “America’s Hell Hole”. That’s how my business partner described it.
It was dark. Smoky. Dirty. Industrial. Full of factories billowing smoke. Everything was black with industrial waste built up over the years.

I want to share a secret with you today. A secret that I’ve found from experiencing, watching and engaging.
The Secret: A story (that is, a life story), is often what is needed to bring you success
It only recently occurred to me that a part of my success in life and in business is due to my story.
My Story (or, what attracts people to me and helps me stand out)

We wake up at 7am. Each day.
We go to bed at 11pm. Each day.
We commute the same route to work. Each day.
We light up a cigarette. Each time we start our car.
We do the same workout at the gym. Each day (and regardless of whether it is working for us).
As humans, we like to believe we’re the far most superior race on Earth and we’re nothing like the bird that migrates year after year… to the day. But when push comes to shove, we inferior, empowered, Earth busting humans are creatures of habit just like any animal.

As bloggers, employers, employees, entrepreneurs, writers and researchers, our office is a key component of our home. It’s where we think. Motivate. Inspire. Create. Contemplate. Brainstorm.
Practically. Spiritually. Form. Function. Taking all those in to account, what would be your ideal home office? Take away all limits of money, space and trying to please others.
In an ideal world, what would your ideal home office contain and how would it be laid out?
Before I paint, in words, what my ideal office would be, I want to share my current office and discuss some of the points I like and dislike.

As I stand at the kitchen sink washing a glass, I feel my body warm in the scolding water. I tingle.
As I stand there, I feel the days burden boil over the end. I feel my self pity crawl up and over. I feel my cry for freedom explode and expand.
Poor morale all day long. And now, finally, I feel an open valve.
I put down the glass. Walking from the kitchen, I dry my hands. I slide open the door and walk on the deck.
Cool evening. This is summer.
