July 2007. Sat in the passenger seat on the freeway heading out of Ohio. As I sat there blogging and arranging our schedule for our days at a conference in Chicago, we passed through “America’s Hell Hole”. That’s how my business partner described it.
It was dark. Smoky. Dirty. Industrial. Full of factories billowing smoke. Everything was black with industrial waste built up over the years.

Earlier today I came across Odiogo, a free service that allows you to provide an audio version of your blog posts, along with your written version.
I’ve just installed it on my blog. I have to say I am very impressed. Take a look at the “Listen now” section at the top of this post to listen to this post in audio format.
Registering for the service took 30 seconds. All I had to do was enter my feed URL and email address. And typical of most WordPress plugins, installing took just 60 seconds.

Free Running by Jon Lucas
I remember the days when blogging was a flow. A zen state. A free spirit. Free of money. Free of structure. Free of schedules.
Blogging was what the blogger wanted it to be. Tomorrow may be different from today. Passion. Creative. Zest. Blogging had it all.
It was in fact early 1999 when the term “blog” was coined, two years after the term “Web log” was formed. The first directory of blogs, started in 1999, only contained 50 entries. 50 blogs. That must have been a close community. Or not. Back then, blogs were not so much about building a community with other bloggers, as they were about one person just wanting to write (regardless of whether anybody read what he was writing).

It goes without saying that blogging is increasing in power. Media are starting to recognise blogs in an official way. The public are beginning to understand what a blog is and what power they can contain. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that bloggers are now finding it easier to bring back power to those who need it.
Power to the Consumer
Consumers are scammed constantly. Often, scams go undetected with the big companies and corporations getting away with it. But not anymore! Blogging is allowing consumers to fight back.
Funtastic Holidays Scam
30 minutes ago, my good friend Brendon Sinclair wrote about his Mum being scammed by Funtastic Holidays.

It’s really easy to succeed as a blogger. It involves pressing plastic buttons a certain amount of times in a certain order. Simple.
“I push a lot of buttons. There’s a trick to pushing them in the proper order, but no one way is “right” and everyone pushes their buttons differently. In fact, the order in which they push their buttons (combined with the number of times they push them) determines how much money they make.“
