It’s really easy to succeed as a blogger. It involves pressing plastic buttons a certain amount of times in a certain order. Simple.
“I push a lot of buttons. There’s a trick to pushing them in the proper order, but no one way is “right” and everyone pushes their buttons differently. In fact, the order in which they push their buttons (combined with the number of times they push them) determines how much money they make.“

I’m a perfectionist. In everything I do.
Sport, writing, designing, creating, travelling. Everything.I strive to be the best. Not because I’m a calculated individual set on self and world domination. No. Not at all.
Rather, I’m just that type of person. If a job, hobby, passion or test is to be done, I don’t see any interest in not striving to be perfect.
But sometimes we can’t be perfect. And that’s ok, because we can at least say we tried to be prefect. I hope.

60% of all my commentators are not subscribers. It’s an astonishing fact, and one I intend to change. Change, not by disallowing non-subscribers the right to comment (I value them far too much to do that), but rather by encouraging non-subscribers to make the switch to subscriber.
I first noticed this statistic last week and it was then that I decided to try and do something. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to do, and I came to the conclusion that in the ideal world I would like to convert all commentators to subscribers. So that’s what I set out to do.

Last week, I saw a discussion sparked by Ben Barden asking “Are automated notes impersonal?“. Specifically, Ben refers to the automated emails a first time commentator on a blog may receive.
There doesn’t seem to be many bloggers sending automated emails to those who comment, but I do. I use the Comment Relish plugin to send an automated email to users who comment on my blog for their first time.

The best blogging advice I ever received came from Jane May, who was once a very active force in the make money online scene of the blogosphere. In a review of my blog, Jane said:
Don’t try to monetize your blog straight away. Focus on building a loyal base of readers and visitors before you think about money.
Since Jane wrote that review last year, I’ve never really understood why she made that particular comment. Until now.
