I’m a 21 year old entrepreneur located in West Yorkshire, UK. Fully immersed within the millionaire mind set, my business career started at the age of 14 when I started completing online surveys.
I left school before completing my A levels after becoming hooked on my business dream in 2001 while chatting with a fellow Scout.
After merging my Web site development business with two friends’ in late 2004 to form Equentity LLC, I began to appear in the local media. The first of this media coverage came close to home, with a half page spread in the business supplement of my local newspaper. This sparked great interest among the local business community. After being the feature article in the Halifax Courier’s weekly business supplement, I was contacted by both radio and television stations. As a direct result, I travelled to the BBC Radio Leeds studios to conduct a live interview. Again, this sparked great interest within my county of West Yorkshire, and I was praised for the manner in which I handled my first radio interview, at the age of just 18. Listen to the Interview
I have always maintained that Scouting has played a significant role in helping me achieve my goals. Having been a Scout since the age of six, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience. Now 20, I am an Explorer Scout leader, preparing and running an adventurous and challenging programme for 14-18 year olds. In 2006, I organised a trip to Kandersteg, Switzerland for 18 of my Scouts and Scout leaders, a trip that I enjoyed six years earlier, which I class as the most rewarding ten nights of my life. The three things I feel I have gained most from Scouting are leadership skills, confidence in groups and respect for the outside world. Shouting For Scouting - Video
Although I say I am self taught, what I really mean is I didn’t spend four years of my life at business school. However, what I did do was spend the last six years of my life frequenting online forums and networking with people who have already achieved the same goals that I would like to achieve. Eventually that networking pays off, and there is absolutely no way I would have the knowledge I have today if I didn’t work to meet the right people, whether it is online or face to face.

[...] all know how hard it is to find a niche and take the initial steps to start a blog. Jamie Harrop has done just that, started a blog. Jamie isn’t your average Joe off the street, he’s [...]
Great information! Thanks for writing this. It is an honor to participate in the discussion.
Jamie,
I have been following you for months now - i first encountered your writing on Brazen Careerist — in my neverending search to find great insight from blunt an honest internet genius’s.
I, lol, am unfortunately about 4 years behind in my effots (it seems) to do almost exactly what you are doing (have done) I started an internet strategy consulting firm while in school (in 2004 ) and am preparing to merge with two other small start-ups to form a one-stop web shop — relatively similar to equentity, LLC…
I just wanted to say hello, introduce myself, and let you know that you’re doing this right - and I can’t wait to see what develops next.
Keep up all the hard work,
Nick Eubanks
Hey Nick,
It truly makes me day when I receive a comment like yours.
It looks like you’ve got off to a fantastic start in your career, and it sounds like it’s only going to get better. I wish you the best of luck. My last few years have been one heck of an adventure. I hope you get to experience something similar.
Please do come by and write more comments and keep me up to speed with where your business plans are going.
It must be a really exciting time for you.
Jamie
Something to note (take it for what it’s worth):
I got a few links to other sites that I thought were good from your site, but I wasn’t going to subscribe until… I read your About page where it says that you’re 20 years old.
For many, that might make them not want to subscribe, but for me (I’m 19), it was an extra connection. Just thought I’d let you know.
Hey Marshall,
Thanks for subscribing and thanks for the comment.
I’ve actually found that displaying my age increases the number of subscribers I get. It’s just another way to open up and make a connection, like you said.
As it happens, I’m now 21 so I better update this page. Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks for subscribing, once again.
Jamie
Hey, you’re welcome.
I’m looking forward to reading more from you.
Hey, I was also a freelancer but when I was 11, now I’m 16 and I blog and do affiliate marketing. My blog is http://www.genxor.com (sorry if you dont allow links). Anyways It’s nice to know you live in West Yorkshire, I live in west yorkshire too but bradford. Nice blog keep up the good work.
Regards
Karl Hadwen
Hi Jamie,
Great site you have here. I subscribed so I could read more. Keep the good stuff coming!
Cheers,
Jeremy
Hey Jeremy,
Glad to hear you’ve subscribed. Looking forward to reading more comments from you.
Jamie
Hi Jamie,
Great video, what a good idea for your About page.
I enjoy reading your blog, keep up the good work!
Andrew Mason.
Cheers Andrew.
Quick question for you. Was it obvious to you that you could interact with the list to the right of the video? I’m not sure whether people will simply miss the fact that those items change the photo, or whether it is obvious.
Yeh, the underline took me straight to them…
Awesome. That’s what I wanted to hear.
Thanks Andrew.
Hey Jamie,
Glad to see things are going well for you - 170 subscribers is something! I remember reading one of Yaro Starak’s posts about him getting 10, then 100, then 1,000 - and so on. Elevator blogging really works when the content is interesting, understandable, and intelligent.
So since my last comment I have gone ahead and merged with the smaller web service firms i had spoke about, we have formed a company called atomni - and are building out an insane website i hope to be up soon.
What are you doing with yourself these days, now that you have sold off equentity?
Hey Nick,
It’s great to hear from you.
I’m going to give you one piece of advice and one piece of advice only (for now). Buy the Web Design Business Kit. Right now.
I’m a good friend with the author, Brendon Sinclair, but if I didn’t know him I’d still recommend it as highly as I am right now. I’ve been reading it for the second time over the last week and I can’t speak highly enough of it. It’s a small investment, for sure, but it is well worth the price. You can buy it and see sample chapters at http://www.sitepoint.com/kits/freelance2/
The next few years are going to be so exciting for you. I’d love for you keep me up to speed on your progress.
As for me, I’m blogging full time, business planning, market researching, and job hunting. Exciting times on my end too.
