Earlier today I came across Odiogo, a free service that allows you to provide an audio version of your blog posts, along with your written version.
I’ve just installed it on my blog. I have to say I am very impressed. Take a look at the “Listen now” section at the top of this post to listen to this post in audio format.
Registering for the service took 30 seconds. All I had to do was enter my feed URL and email address. And typical of most WordPress plugins, installing took just 60 seconds.
The speech quality is fantastic. It’s as close to human as I’ve ever heard from an automated system.
The Advantages of Odiogo.
By being able to listen to your writing, you’re able to pick up grammar errors. You’re also able to find out how a blind Internet surfer will hear your writing if he is using a screen reader. I’ve also been able to spot a couple of errors in my writing. For example, in a previous post I wrote “combing”, when I meant to write “combining”. Spell checks can’t pick up on something like that, but your ears can.
It also allows your readers to download the post, so they can now listen to the article on their iPod or MP3 Player.
I’ll be keeping Odiogo, so from now on you’ll be able to listen to all my posts, as well as read them. Enjoy!

Hi Jamie - This is a fantastic idea. Listening to posts out loud helps us to see whether they flow well doesn’t it? Also, many people prefer listening to audio, as opposed to reading so it sounds like a great service.

Hey Cath,
Yep, people prefer certain senses. Hopefully this will help my readers who prefer to hear, rather than see.
Thanks Cath!
