Week One Roundup

20 June, 2007 - General Business - 16 Comments

One week after I launched this blog, I gathered it was time for a round up of what has happened, what I and we have learned, and what is coming in the future.

The Stats

What have I learned?
I learnt videos use a lot of bandwidth, when the blog decided to exceed its bandwidth limit. :D
I learnt that using eye catching headlines is a sure way to get people to read.
I learnt that posting useful comments on other blogs is a great way to draw in visitors
I learnt blogging isn’t as easy as I thought it was, but it certainly is as fun as I expected!

What have you learnt?
Well, I don’t know, but I like to think I’ve reminded you all that lists are a great way to increase productivity, rookie errors can be learnt from, and playing is just as important as working.

The Future
I’m intending to publish an interview once a week, (The latest is with Paul Green)
I’ll be recording a new vlog tomorrow, which will be discussing a few interesting facts about some of the worlds entrepreneurial billionaires

I hope the first week has been interesting for you. Please feel free to send me your feedback in the comments here, or via the contact form.

I learnt that Jamie uses “learnt” a lot! And I am still getting use to this layout since it could so easily be a fluid layout in my opinion.

Learnt learnt learnt learnt. :D

You would prefer “learnt” over “errm”, right? ;)

Fluid? What ya thinking, C? It *could* be fluid, but I’m thinking the homepage would look horrible as a fluid layout. Maybe I should just do it on the content pages. That wouldn’t be too hard.

Learning is the first pathway to earning. Only true learners become great earners on the web.

Just read the story of Marcus Frind and you would see how he learned his way to the top earning over $450,000 monthly from Google AdSense.

Beleive it or not, there are still some people out there with 15″ monitors. :) Mine is in the garage, but I have friends who still use them.

Hey Angie.

Yup, there are certainly some. :) I did my research before launching the blog, and about 1% of my visitors on my old blog were using a resolution at less than 1024px wide, so I was happy to create a fixed width design that didn’t accommodate that tiny percentage. :)

Hi Santosh,

Thanks for the comment. :) I’ve received a lot of visitors from Jane’s blog, but I wish it was easier to keep track of them all and monitor conversion rates (By conversion, I mean an RSS subscriber or a regular reader).

I’ve just been looking at your site. I’m looking forward to your comments in the future. :)

Wow, Jamie -

Splendid job this. You have really reinforced your position in my list of heroes, those that I have learnt much from and shared much with.

As I was reading through, it occurred to me that learnt is perhaps a bit more appropriate than learned. It sounds like, and describes, that burnt feeling one gets when they’ve crammed 45 pounds of information into that tiny 4 pound container we call a brain.

Nutz! I could go on for hours, but two words will sum things up nicely: Great work!

Thanks Matt. :D

I wouldn’t say I’m a hero, but if you want to call me that, go right ahead. I’m not going to stop you. ;)

Jamie,

you will go places because you are a thinker. It there all over your writings.

There are many bloggers out here who had nothing to offer. That’s why they suffer. The web is in dire need of thinkers who have somethings to offer.

My advise is that you should ’stubbornly’ stick to your entrepreneurial slant. We can’t all be a ‘John Chow’. That was the bandwagon mistake of many current bloggers.

Thanks Philomena. :)

There seems to be a lot of people who have followed exactly what John has done. I’ll happily take tips from John personally, as well as from his ebook and blog, but I wanted this blog to focus on where my passion lies (in being an entrepreneur), as opposed to talking about how to be the next great blogger, like so many seem to do.

Sure, there are people who can do this and succeed (Take Jane May, for example), but it’s becoming a saturated market, for sure.

Yes, one thing nobody can take away from Jane May is that she is a deep researcher. That made her one of the best bloggers with a ‘nourishing’ menu.

I have read many of her posts and discovered that even when she writes of the same topic or subject with JC, hers are always deeper and more resourceful.

That is not to take away from the humorous postings and amazing generosity of JC, I doff my hat for him.
